Support needed to sustain vital services for children with disabilities
Heel & Toe Children’s Charity, a lifeline for children with physical disabilities and complex needs across the North East, is urgently appealing for support to continue its essential work.
Based in Pelton near the Drum Industrial Estate, the charity supports hundreds of children and their families every year through its life-changing services.
However, growing financial pressures have put a strain on its ability to sustain these vital services. The charity has already faced the difficult decision to make staff redundancies as it battles to continue delivering its life-changing support to families.
Now, Heel & Toe has launched a fundraising campaign to raise the £60,000 urgently needed to secure the future of its hydrotherapy pool at its centre in Perkinsville, County Durham. The funds will help cover operational costs and ensure the charity can meet the increasing demand for this crucial service.
Heel & Toe, established in 2008, is one of the only places in the North East offering hydrotherapy – a therapy proven to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance the quality of life for children with complex physical needs.
The closure of leisure centres and council-operated pools has further limited access to hydrotherapy in the region, making Heel & Toe’s service more critical than ever.
Amanda Tweedy, Deputy CEO of Heel & Toe said: “Our hydrotherapy programme is a lifeline for many children with complex medical needs. It allows them to move freely, gain confidence, and experience joy in a way that is unparalleled. We have seen first-hand the transformative power of hydrotherapy, and we are committed to ensuring that this essential service continues for years to come.
“The hydrotherapy pool has proved essential for many families in the community, delivering vital care and support for children with physical disabilities and complex needs. Donations can make a huge difference to their lives and their ability to continue to access this life-changing therapy.”
