Easton Care, based at the Drum Industrial Estate, is celebrating its first anniversary of providing bespoke support to families across the region.
Founded by Kate Thomson, the organisation offers lifelong care for individuals of all ages across the region including County Durham, Newcastle, and Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland.
Inspired by her five-year-old son, Easton, who is non-verbal autistic, Kate struggled to find appropriate care. She left her corporate fashion career to create Easton Care, with a mission to support families in similar situations.
Easton Care provides a range of services including home care, complex care, respite care, autism support, and therapies like CBT and speech therapy. Their match-making service ensures carers are paired with the right clients, tailoring care to individual’s needs.
The business has grown organically, with the team now including an in-house CBT therapist, an office manager, and six training staff. Their hub offers a safe, welcoming space for play, therapy, and special educational needs (SEN) support.
Currently working with two schools, Easton Care plans to expand these collaborations. The goal is not only to provide essential care but to help children with special needs thrive and remain regulated.
Kate said: “What sets Easton Care apart is our personal touch. I understand the difficulties families face because I’ve lived it myself. It’s not just about care; it’s about providing the right support, with understanding and compassion. All our carers have firsthand experience delivering all aspects of care, support and offer packages that are tailored to each and every person we work with.”
As the business enters its second year, Kate is focused on expanding services and helping even more families across the region. Plans include strengthening ties with local authorities and healthcare providers to meet growing demand and identifying and creating a safe outdoor space for children and clients to enjoy.
Kate added: “The journey we’ve been on over the past year has been incredibly rewarding. I’m so proud of the positive impact we’ve had on families, and I look forward to continuing to grow, helping more people, and providing the support that truly makes a difference in their lives.”
Kate is also campaigning to raise £10,000 to develop a SEN hub for Easton’s school – the Great Lumley Infant School. All funds will be transferred to the school’s head teacher, Mrs. Wilson, to purchase resources and transform the SEN space. The project is set to be completed by May 2025. Donate here.
