Decisions and Disruptions game helps businesses tackle cybersecurity risks

With cyber-attacks targeting 50% of UK businesses last year, the North East Regional Cyber Crime Unit (NERCCU) which sits within the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU) offers resources to help companies stay ahead of the growing digital threat.

According to the 2024 UK Government Cyber Security Breaches Survey, 50% of UK businesses were hit by cyber-attacks or security breaches, up from 39% in the previous year.

In response to the increasing threat, NERCCU offers a variety of free services and expert guidance to businesses across the region. A key initiative is its Decisions and Disruptions immersive game.

The game places participants in the role of a power plant board member, where they must make crucial decisions on budget allocation while responding to unexpected disruptions.

Jessica Oughtred, Regional Cyber Protect Officer, said: “Cybercrime is evolving rapidly, and businesses need to make informed decisions to protect themselves. With this game, we’re giving companies a light-hearted way of learning about the results of decisions around cyber security and the benefits and consequences of those decisions.”

The game can be easily hosted in any office setting, providing a practical and engaging way for companies to learn about cybercrime risks and make informed decisions together.
