County Durham wellness company celebrates two years of magic and miracles
Behind the Curtain, a wellness-focused Community Interest Company based in Langley Park, is celebrating two years of empowering individuals to overcome challenges, rediscover themselves, and transform their lives.
Founded by Ross Jameson-Laffey, Behind the Curtain offers a unique blend of wellness workshops and retreats designed to improve mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Ross established Behind the Curtain two years ago after leaving a successful corporate career helping businesses to scale and grow. His decision to shift focus was prompted after a life-changing experience in Colombia where he witnessed what he describes as ‘magic and miracles’, which inspired him to help others heal and take ownership of their lives.
The workshops and retreats are built around the principles of mindfulness, sovereignty, and accountability. Activities such as meditation, breathwork, vision boarding, and group discussions help participants reflect, overcome challenges and self-doubt, develop self-awareness, and create lasting change.
The sessions are held at Ross’s home, a converted Victorian railway station in Langley Park, Durham and on the surrounding land that includes an orchard, an outdoor sauna, and cold-water bath.
Ross said: “It’s not about what I’ve walked away from, it’s about what I’ve found; helping people reconnect with themselves and rewrite their futures. True transformation comes when people realise that the power to change has always been within them.”
In addition, Ross facilitates workshops at Durham Prison to help offenders reflect on their actions and take steps toward positive change. These sessions focus on accountability, breaking free from cycles of negative behaviour, and envisioning a more constructive future.
Behind the Curtain also partners with a range of businesses and the LGBTQI+ community, offering teamwork and entrepreneurial workshops. They are designed to improve self-awareness, address skills gaps, overcome imposter syndrome, and help individuals build resilience while pursuing positive career paths.
As Behind the Curtain marks its second year, Ross is focused on continuing to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals, regardless of their backgrounds, can heal, grow, and build the lives they truly want to lead.
Ross added: “Fear can paralyse us, but facing that fear is where the breakthrough to becoming your true self happens. Watching people reconnect with themselves and take control of their futures is what makes this work so meaningful.
“Now that I know this feeling of freedom exists, I want to help others discover that same freedom. I am dancing this beautiful journey alongside others as they find the answers within themselves and embrace the life they deserve.”
Bespoke workshops and retreats are available for groups and individuals, providing opportunities for transformation and personal growth.
